Diagnosis
begins with a comprehensive examination.
A thorough history will be taken and a clinical exam will be performed
to determine the patient’s diagnosis.
After the diagnosis of the patient’s condition, the most appropriate and
conservative treatment option will be recommended. With the appropriate diagnosis and treatment,
we have been very successful in helping our patients find relief from pain and
other symptoms experienced due to TMD, with less than 1% surgical intervention
recommendations, as long as we have patient compliance. Due
to the fact that everyone is unique, there are a variety of treatment regimens
to choose from, including:
·
Range
of motion drills
·
Physical
Therapy
·
Removable
intraoral device (often called a splint)
·
Bonding
on teeth to alter support
·
Functional
appliances
·
Removable
and fixed orthodontics
·
Bite
adjustments
·
Possible reconstruction
of previous dental work/ replacement of missing teeth
·
Skin
contact infrared therapy
·
Natural
Supplement recommendations
·
Pharmaceuticals
The type and duration of treatment will vary for every patient. This usually depends on the initial diagnosis and how well the patient responds to treatment.
